TINDER TO THE ISLE

How We Got Here

A little bit of background on how Mr Thornewill and Miss Reavill went from strangers to newly weds.

2018–19: The Start

After years spent at the gym, at work, or drinking, Conner decided it was time to talk to someone outside the lads (he was bored and tired of eating ice cream alone). Armed with a few over-edited photos from Louie and Lewis, he downloaded Tinder and swiped right on everyone — why not cast a wide net? Meanwhile, Megan was taking the opposite approach: picky, selective, and searching for someone suave, interesting, and charming — though fresh out of a questionable relationship and in desperate need of a reliable lift to Muffin Break. Scientists still don’t know what possessed her to swipe yes on Conner, but destiny (and caffeine) clearly had a plan.

They matched, and occasional texts turned into long chats, then “good morning x” messages. After several failed date attempts (mostly Conner cancelling), they finally went bowling. Megan spent the night staring at Conner’s arms, Conner pointed out the tag on her jumper, and the game ended in a draw — a rematch was inevitable.

On 19 January 2019, a trip to Matlock Bath made it official: they were off the market. That first year was packed with trips to Wales, Liverpool, and Edinburgh, a cancelled holiday (thanks, Thomas Cook), meeting the families, and even a brief stint living together before Megan moved back to Burton with her BFF Pauley in The Flat. A highlight moment? Conner, between jobs, declaring, “You’re homeless, I’m jobless… it can only go up from here.” Romantic, really.

2020–21: The Lockdown Years

A true test of love — a pandemic, phone squabbles, Conner’s brief obsession with Farming Simulator, and Megan holding up the care community like the hero she is. After three months apart, their first reunion was, of course, completely PG — fully clothed in bed (filthy pervs).

Between lockdowns and “exercise-related” secret visits, nothing could stop them. They faced everything together and came out stronger, proving they could survive anything — even government restrictions. By the time life returned to normal, they were unbreakable, heading into year three stronger than ever.

2022–24: Time to Get Busy

Normality returned, and these two wasted no time. Megan started driving, Conner began his diploma, and they took their first trip abroad to Portugal. Conversations about marriage, kids, and “the ultimate holiday” started to feel less like jokes and more like plans.

Then came 2023 — their biggest year yet. They saved for a once-in-a-lifetime Mexico trip, bought a house, and Conner had a mysterious little fund… for what, you ask? On 27 October, just hours before flying to the States, Conner (wearing Paul’s crocs) proposed at the front door — with not one but two rings. They kept it secret for two weeks before sharing the news with family. Oh, and they’d also bought a house. Casual.

By 2024, the spreadsheets were out, the tools were in hand, and The Crescent became their biggest joint project yet. Wallpaper stripping, wall knocking, total chaos — but together, they built their home, brick by brick.

Massive thanks to everyone who helped along the way — whether popping round for a nosey or clocking over 250 hours of labour (yes, Paul, that’s you). They couldn’t have done it without you.

2025: A New Chapter Begins

On 2 August, after 15 months of hard graft, they finally moved out of Paul and Debbie’s (Megan’s hardest separation from Fiddis) and into their very own home. It might still have been a building site, but it was their building site — the start of a new chapter.

Now, with their home nearing completion and one final project just five months away, the next adventure is about to begin.
